Today's topic is the red button: MOVIE RECORD button. I don't use this. If I want to make a film, I will use a semi-professional Hollywood style camera. Yes, I'm a film snob and I worked in Hollywood. Maybe at some time I will produce a YouTube Channel, but presently, I'm focusing on photography only.
Next we're discussing the +/- button.
Until then, happy shooting!
Note: My top three films last year were Green Book, Can You Ever Forgive Me? and BlacKkKlansman.
After turning on your Nikon D810, you will need to format the memory card (page 366). This little card saves your photos.
There are two ways to format a memory card. The first (and easiest) can be found on the top and back of the camera.
Press the MODE and Trash Can Icon simultaneously. Hold for a second until a "FOR" (formatting) will start flashing on the top panel. Release the buttons.
The second way will be explained when we move onto the back panel menu.

Until next time, happy shooting!
ps. Always back up your photos either on a hard drive or online or even better yet, BOTH!
Today's Tip: Since tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day -- which is HUGE in the Boston area -- here's a tip about imbibing. Drink Gatorade prior to chugging some Irish whiskey or Guinness. Alcohol dehydrates you but electrolytes keep you from getting a hang over. I've tried it. It works.
Congratulations! You're purchased a really intelligent and creative camera -- the Nikon D810. Spring is just about to start so this is a great time to start learning and getting outside!
Note: Except in New England when Spring is just a theory.
This first is easy breezy. Just flip the dial marked OFF and ON.
But what's this lightbulb for?
Simply push the dial further and.... let there be light!
Well, you'll get 6 seconds of light.
Next time, I'll start with the buttons at the top right side. What's that little red button? Find out!
Today's Tip: Please read the manual. It really helps. Trust me.
Note: I'm not endorsed by Nikon and not paid in any way by the company. I simply love their products.
My "go to" camera:
The link above will take you to Amazon where you can read more. I will get a very small commission but it helps support my work. Much appreciated!
