A (aperture) MODE is probably the most confusing mode. Let's watch a good video about aperture first.
In the video he uses the term "depth of field" a lot in his explanation so here's another helpful link on Depth of Field.
Onward. Here's how to find the A MODE on your Nikon D810. Press the MODE button...
... then rotate the Main Command Dial until it has an A on the top screen.

Tip: I was told by several professional photographers to only shoot in A mode for the first six months.
